It'll get interesting when Alexei Emelin's cleared to play. That's when Bergevin may be forced to make a move.

I think Montreal's offense is better.
Ottawa's D is better--not by much.
Ottawa's goaltender has been better--no debate, and Lehner is a better back up than Budaj. It's a new year... eager to see how it plays out in both cities at the position.

Prospects? No, Ottawa's aren't better.

Coaching??? Why cause Paul Maclean beat Therrien before getting pummeled by Pittsburgh?

Sorry, not giving it to him. Can admit he outcoached Therrien in the playoffs, but both coaches were vital to their team's success last season. I don't think either one of them has the edge on terms of where their team finishes in the standings.

If Ottawa's better than Montreal, it's marginal, and even so, it doesn't guarantee them a higher finish in the standings.

With Markov, Subban, Gorges and Emelin garanteed to hold down spots, looks like Diaz, Tinordi, Bouillon and Murray will battle it out for the other 2. I'd guess that Tinordi proves he belongs, if he hasn't already, and that Bouillon and Murray will split the rest of the games... Any takers for Diaz?

Markov - Emelin
Subban - Gorges
Diaz - Tinordi

Sorry for Bouillon and Murray.

Next year Beaulieu on the right and Tinordi on his natural left side. Diaz and Emelin, Subban and Gorges unless one the kids in the system makes a splash.

I can see that based on ability but it depends how comfortable Tinordi is by then. playing with a veteran can cover up a lot of mistakes for a rookie... playing with Diaz... well...

Diaz, Murray and Tinordi are the guys that will compete for a regular spot. If Tinordi maintains the level he's shown, he's virtually guaranteed a spot, which makes it a stiff competition between Diaz and Murray.

Then it becomes about who the Canadiens are playing on a given night, if neither player jumps ahead of the other to give the Canadiens better balance on the back end.

right now, Diaz is playing with very little confidence, and it shows. We'll see how he looks when the games matter.

They will play primarily agaisnt the other's team 3rd line. I think Diaz is still underrated, he can move the puck out of the zone quickly and he's still getting better.

no chance they will do that, unless the Canadiens are in the crapper. And even then, I'm not sure they would.

Also, Beaulieu isn't even the first call up right now on the blue line, he's gotta have a really good year to get into the conversation.

He seems at least a year away from playing here. And taking over for Markov?? Maybe in 2-3 years he'll be a viable option to do that.

Also EE,

I believe the Habs have to have 23 contracts in the AHL on Oct 1st, if both Tinordi and Bournival are part of it, it means one of the other forwards has to be sent down/traded as there are currently 14 forwards in the NHL and 8 D'S + 2 goalies.

Pateryn before Beaulieu? I would be highly surprised.
